Round 16 vs Whitfords City
With the return of a couple of players we fielded a strong team and were optimistic of a result. The first part of the match was tightly contested with each team having a share of possesion.
After 21 minutes a mistake from the Whitfords central defenders gifted Podgy the opportunity to score on debut, calmly slotting one past the keeper from 16 yards.
The equaliser resulted from a sequence of close range shots that eventually found the net. There were patches of good football though there was no further score and the teams went in at 1-1.
After the break both teams created chances and the referee who had a significant role in the match created a number of set pieces opportunities.
We were able to get forward and get the ball into dangerous positions though didn't add to the score.
After what seemed a definite foul Whitfords scored the winner from a close range shot while the Villa defence remonstrated with the referee.
To our credit we persisted and despite our continued ability to get forward and some interesting tactical moves the scoreline remained at 2-1. One that got away from us.
