Round 7 v Melville City
Due to lack of numbers at training Fred had no option but to start the same team that defeated Whitfords in the cup the week before. Just like every week Kenji was late but i think we have all got used to when we are playing away he will just turn up when he wants. (haha) Other than that everyone else was there on time and for the second week in a row we went through a long warm up and again it paid off although i will say that I thought we were a little flat before kick off especially in the changing room.
We probably had the better of the early part of the game, again we set up 4-5-1 with liam the lone man upfront. They looked to controll the game through the midfield but we were able to snuff out any danger and rebound to set ourselves up for chances. The first real note of the game was the first goal, a classic fred attack with kenji being sent free down the left crossing the ball to the back post for Musti to cushion the ball to myself, still with lots of work to do stepped inside the defender before beating the guy on the line and their keeper with a low finish. At this point we were getting the ball wide at every chance with Kenji and Musti seeing a lot of possession and again we werent really in any trouble with the back four standing tall and not letting them get the ball into the forwards. I really should have had 2 from a kenji corner shortly after the first. Then came the turning point I found space in the midfield and was able to clip the ball over the top to Kenji who was able to turn his marker easily after he did this he was taken out from behind in a one-on-one position, as the ref was jeremy he had no hesitation in sending the guy off. from the resulting free kick we had a couple of options finally we decided that stevie liddle would have a crack from just outside the box and did he ever almost mirror image of kenji's the week before sweet as you like into the top corner keeper no chance. from there it should have been 2-nil at half time but we fell asleep and with 10 men melville pulled one back. A corner was sent deep and we failed to deal with it eventually landing at the feet of their centre forward who prodded the ball past Danny. Up until then danny had little or nothing to do. 2-1 halftime.
Fred gave us simple instructions at halftime. Control the game. I feel we did just this, we all know (because we play for belmoont) how hard it is playing with 10 men and credit to melville they really stuck at it but as expected we had a lot of the ball and mostly in their half. the killer blow came with about 20 mins to go, again with kenji delivering a pin point cross for work-horse liam to steer home a header that was to powerful for the keeper to hang on to. After that it was all us and the icing on the cake was stevie scoring his second free kick of the game after their keeper had picked up a back pass he powered home the ball from 18 yards from a liam lay off. danny wanted me to mention he flying save in the final minute but after consideration i think the ball was probably heading just wide.
Very solid again boys and the new system is really coming together just have to keep on working hard. Stevie and Amin were again excellent in their positions and are becoming important to how we play. Yoni was strong in defense as he kept the guy who scored 6 against us last year to one tap in. Although we played against 10 men for a lot of the game im still very happy with the way we palyed, Queens Park up next.
