Round 8 v Queens Park
Only a quick match report as not to much to say about this game.
This was a game we were expected to win and thats exactly what happened without to much problems. There was a very relaxed attitude before the game, probably due to Queens Park's poor record. Still it could have been an embarrassing banana skin had we not taken it seriously.
After a good warm up the game started and the plan was always to get an early goal and thats exactly what happened. A passing move down the left involving James, liam and Kenji ended up with the ball at Musti's feet one-on-one with ex-Villa keeper Glen. Musti took his chance very well, one touch to control and as quick as you like flicked the ball through the keepers legs to give us the lead. After that we controlled the rest of the first half and had lots of opportunities to increase the lead. Won't go into much detail but kenji was the main culprit for a couple of bad misses. The second goal came just before halftime an outswinging Gavin corner was met at the near post by the captain to steer home a header. 2-nil at halftime.
The second half followed the same pattern as the first with us having lots of chances and them not putting us under any pressure. A third goal came about 15 minutes into the second half again from a gavin corner, this time an inswinger that was met well by James who rose highest to power home a header. At 3 nil the game was effectively over and that allowed fred to make some changes. Injury prone Liam got a rest and Dave was able to come on for his return after injury/holiday. Also Yoni got a rest with James slipping back into the defense. The fourth came close to the end and again from a corner, this time the ball was partially cleared to the edge of the box and Dave took one touch and then placed the ball low into the far bottom corner leaving the keeper stranded.
4-nil was the way it stayed but it should have been a lot more. A few points on what I thought of the game. We have a tendency to play at the same level as the opposition and today was no different, we lowered our intensity and most of us (including myself) were cruising it was actually very easy out there. lets hope we are able to raise our game next week as we take on top-of-the-table southern spirit (this years big improvers). We should take a lot of confidence into that game as we have now won 3 games in row, scoring 11 and conceeding 1. No one player stood out today, we were all just ok, James and Gavin put in strong preformances against their old club and well done to Dave on his first goal for the year.
